Treasure Our Peace

TREASURE OUR PEACE: Sat Aug. 19 4-6:30 p.m., Busboysand PoetsPlease join the Young Women's Drumming EmpowermentProjectand the Princess of Controversy in standing with ourShe Poet, Treasure, who was recently a victim of gunviolence in our city. On Friday, June 23rd, Treasure was shot twice in herback by someone she did not know. She is now in theprocess of recovering from her injuries including abroken collarbone, while she and her family areundergoing an enormous financial burden. She is alsoawaiting major surgery in order to remove one of thebullets. YWDEP is organizing a benefit concert to assist herand her family and to re-assert that we DO NOT ANDWILL NOT tolerate violence in our communities.Local hip-hop artist the Princess of Controversy willhost and perform, along with local poets MichelleSewell, Margaux Delotte Bennett and Laila Shereen; hiphop artist Cherie Latson; singer/songleader LuciMurphy; dancer Samaa of WeDance Ensemble; actor DebRandall of Venus Theatre; singer/songwriters NaudyMartinez, Juliana Landim andAlan Scott of the Alan Scott Band; and of course YWDEPalong with the Intergenrational Women's Drum Choir.Please join us - we need your support and solidarity.
