Russian Reflections
On June 8, 2006 Russian Cultural Centre in Washington hosted the opening ceremony for the exhibition of a famous Russian artist Katia Margolis 'Venice : Russian Reflections'. The paintings that were presented to the public ' watercolors with Indian ink, as well as etchings ' resemble more the antique European style rather than modern Venice commonly seen by tourists. Looking through the magnificent works, through the play of nuances of white and grey paper we sort of submerge into the famous mist of Venice and we see the city as it is. Katia Margolis visited Venice as an art student many years ago. She was deeply impressed by the enigma beauty of the city and still keeps those memories close in her heart which kept her working on those painting for many years after. Katia's creative work dedicated to Venice is genuinely versatile. At the reception in the Russian Cultural Centre Katia's book 'Venice exercise-books ' Iosif Brodsky and others' was also presented to the public. In this book Katia Margolis combined all verses and texts written by Brodsky about Venice as well as Venice works of Brodsky's friends.
