Freedom Discussion
In conjunction with Silver Spring's Gateway Heliport Gallery’s current show, featuring refugee and asylee artists, we are pleased to be hosting an important panel discussion Tuesday evening, Nov. 14th, with several of the featured artists and Dennis Sobin, director of the Prison Art Gallery. The theme of the discussion is: Understanding the effect of 'Freedom' on the creative process.
We are also proud to announce that Michelle James, founder of The Center for Creative Emergence (www.creativeemergence.com) and the Capitol Creativity Network in Washington DC (www.capitolcreativitynetwork.com) will be moderating the discussion.
When: Nov. 14th, 6:30 - 8pm , Gateway Heliport Gallery: 8001 Kennett St. Silver Spring, Md. 20910
The evening will include several interludes of poetry from Dr. Kyi May Kaung a refugee from Burma and the discussion will begin with
several questions:
1.) What was the role of creativity and art in your life in your respective countries/prison? How did your art change when you left,
arrived in the US?
2.) It is hard enough for outsider, fringe artists to survive in this society. How do you, as a refugee/prisoner outsider artist
survive?
3.) What is the current relationship between your art and home country, jail?
Please join us for an intimate and important discussion on ‘Freedom’ next Tuesday evening.
