Corcoran Biennial

Closer to Home

Ok, so I finally got over to see the Corcoran Biennial, entitled, Closer to Home. Since I am a painter, not an art critic, I will share only those opinions that are of a positive nature.
Among my favorites were: Jeff Spaulding's found object sculptures, Dana Schutz's large scale, psychedelic, neo-expressionist paintings(which, incidentally, look much better in person than in reproduction), Adam Fuss's beautifully haunting daguerreotypes and George Condo's funky surrealist paintings. This exhibition is worth checking out!

Whew! I can't believe that my graduate school experience is nearing the end! The opening reception for my thesis exhibition, held on March 30th was well attended and I received loads of feedback. Of course I was filled with nervous anticipation all week, especially since I am the first graduate student at Catholic U. in several years pursuing an MFA. The show runs until April 15th, giving the senior undergraduate art majors time to install their Senior Exhibition. I will post more info about their show as it becomes available.

First Friday in Dupont Circle

This evening is the first Friday of the month, which means the galleries in Dupont Circle have extended hours. I will not be able to make it out tonight, but if anybody goes, drop me an email if you have any thoughts to share on what you see.
Some Dupont Circle galleries include: Conner Contemporary, JET Artworks, Marsha Mateyka, Gallery 10 and Washington Printmakers.
If the weather holds out, it should be a great evening to gallery hop.
I am Philly bound this weekend to see the Seam Rippers show(see postings below).
